Coins of Russia 2022 (Central Bank Issue Plan)
2022 is the year of the Blue (or Blue) Water Tiger. Therefore, the central banks of various states on these pre-holiday days issue coins dedicated to this symbol of the lunar calendar. Australia has minted the next Lunars positions with different denominations and weights and in different metals. Great Britain issued 5 pounds sterling, having decorated the coin in a beautiful booklet. France issued ¼ euro with a cute tiger surrounded by lush vegetation and Chinese lanterns. 1000 Mongolian tugriks made in the form of a silver statuette look very original.
The Bank of Russia has addressed the theme “Lunar calendar” only once, and the coin with a tiger in this series came out with the date “2010”. We haven’t heard any announcements about the theme’s reincarnation yet. However, nature does not like emptiness, so instead of Russian coins for the Year of the Tiger, you can purchase a token created by the St. Petersburg Mint. And yet, tigers will appear on the coins of Russia in 2022:
in the plan of the Central Bank there are silver 3 rubles “International Forum for the Conservation of the Tiger Population.” And the first “tiger” Russian coin appeared three decades ago: the Amur tiger was minted on the reverse of one of the bimetallic ten-ruble notes of the “Red Book” series. Therefore, we will begin our review with a ten-ruble bimetal.
Coin diameter: 27 mm;
Thickness: 2.1mm;
Weight: 7.9 grams;
Despite the fact that by the time this review was created, 2022 had not yet arrived, the bimetal with this date has already gone into circulation. We are talking about a 10-ruble coin of 2022 “Karachay-Cherkessia Republic”. The region was formed on January 12, 1922. Under the Soviet Union, it was part of the RSFSR as the Karachay-Cherkessia Autonomous Region. Karachay-Cherkessia received republican status in 1992, so now it has to celebrate two significant anniversary dates.
The Central Bank considers the date indicated in the press release (09.11.2021) to be the date of the coin’s release, so this ten-ruble note should be looked for in the Bank of Russia catalog for 2021. However, by the centenary of the founding of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic, the Central Bank plans to issue a 3-ruble silver coin. Similar coins will also mark the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Republic of Adygea and the Yakut ASSR. The first region received its bimetallic coin in 2009, and for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) a serial ten-ruble coin was minted back in 2006.
However, in 2022 it will be possible to find the next item of the “Russian Federation” series in the catalog of the Bank of Russia. It will be the Ivanovo region. At the end of the 1920s, the USSR carried out an administrative-territorial reform, moving away from the provincial heritage. As a result of the transformations, the Ivanovo Industrial Region appeared with the center in Ivanovo-Voznesenski. Seven years later, it was divided into Yaroslavl and Ivanovo regions (by that time Ivanovo-Voznesenski had already been renamed Ivanovo). There will be new items in the series “Ancient cities of Russia”.
This time the insert of the reverse will show the coat of arms and sights of such cities as Risk (Kursk region) and Girodat’s (Nizhny Novgorod region). The last city was supposed to receive the coin in 2021, but due to the anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod, they decided to change the order. So far, the plan says the number of “up to 5 million”, but (judging by the circulation of 2021), we should expect that again only a million coins will be minted for each position. A coin will also appear for the 300th anniversary of the founding of Nizhny Tail, but it will already be silver outside a specific series.

Diameter: 22mm;
Thickness: 2.2mm;
Edge: intermittently ribbed.
The series “Cities of Labor Valor” will be continued by four coins: Izhevsk, Irkutsk, Kazan and Magnitogorsk. The Central Bank adheres to the alphabetical order of listing the cities indicated by the list of July 2, 2020, when the title “City of Labor Valor” was awarded to twenty cities of the Russian Federation (an exception has been made so far only for Omsk). However, the list of settlements with this honorary title managed to increase significantly in 2021: on May 20, it increased by twelve positions, and
On September 10, the title “City of Labor Valor” was awarded to a dozen more cities. So there will be at least 34 coins in the series. The artistic performance of the reverse, on which in most cases there are monuments to the workers of the front and rear, was considered worthy by the collectors. And here, in the Central Bank’s plan for 2022, the value “up to 5 million” remains, but numismatists no longer count on such a miracle.
The Bank of Russia promises a circulation of one million copies for the “World Championship of Hockey among juniors under 20”, which will be held in Novosibirsk and Omsk from December 26, 2022 to January 6, 2023. Both cities are hosting such a competition for the first time, and on the territory of Russia it will be held for the third time.
The appearance in the Bank of Russia plan of this ten-ruble payment is a great merit of the Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrei Travnikov. It was he who turned to the Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Elvira Nabiullina with a proposal to mint a commemorative coin because of the high significance of the upcoming event not only on a Russian scale, but also at the international level. Andrey Travnikov also noted that hockey is one of the favorite sports games of Siberians. The next position in the “Man of Labor” series will be released in the same print run.
